We surveyed 300 SHS students for their thoughts on Sunday’s big game and performance

This Sunday Super Bowl LVI (that’s 56, for those of you who struggle with Roman Numerals) will air on NBC and Peacock Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. The competing teams are the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. This year the game will take place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.
To find out more of the student body’s thoughts on the big game and all the viewing rituals that go along with it, The Spartan Times sent out a survey for this year’s annual Super Bowl game and Halftime show.
Statistics for the Game
Of the students surveyed, 57% are going to be watching the game. Among that group, 19% are rooting for the Rams, leaving the other 36% cheering for the Bengals (2% had no preference).
Looking through the data of student predictions, the LA Rams are favored this year to win the Super Bowl. That leaves the Cincinnati Bengals as the underdogs in most people’s eyes. For score predictions, 27-31 Rams and 40-28 Bengals are the most popular. Given more predict that the Rams will take, we will just have to see if they show up to win during game time.
Halftime Show
The 2022 performers for the Pepsi Halftime show are Dr. Dre, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, and Kendrick Lamar. Out of all the performers, Eminem is the favorite rapper by 32.7% of the students who voted and Snoop Dogg coming in second at 17.7%.
A lot of students are more excited about the Halftime show than they are excited for the game. In fact, we asked if voters were just excited for the show and 58.7% are hyped to see what the performers have in store. Interestingly, 24.4% are only watching the Halftime show!
Now, if you don’t like rap music then maybe this year’s performance will not be your favorite, but “The Real Slim Shady” is back and he wants your attention (please).
Commercials
Like myself, 20.1% of the students tuning in will only be watching because of the hilarious and entertaining commercials. Commercials in the Super Bowl always deliver with captivating the audience. Celebrities in various commercials are Kevin Hart, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Charlie Puth, Ewan McGregor, and more!
Snacks
There are many foods that people annually have during the Super Bowl so we asked which foods people typically have that day. Possible choices included pizza, wings/chicken tenders, nachos, chips and dip, and veggie platters. We found that 43.6% of students are going to be eating all the food choices and 38.3% are having chips and some kind of dip. Among the other remaining percent there were a couple of students who said they were going to be having popcorn, but not because they were watching the Super Bowl it was because they were going to be watching Die Hard.
Only time will tell who takes the trophy and if the Halftime show will live up to the hype!
