Second Inning Plays Key Role in Victory
The Sanford Varsity Softball Team defeated the Biddeford Tigers 12-2 on Friday, April 22 thanks to a powerful eight runs in the second inning. The offensive onslaught by the Spartans was led by Madison Allen, Ava Gendron, Madison Sheppard, Julissa McBarron, Tori Parker and Libby Alexander, who all notched in runs that inning.
Sheppard was credited with the victory for the Spartans. The pitcher went four innings that allowed zero runs on two hits, striking out nine and walking one. Alexander threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Victoria Barrow took the loss for Biddeford. The hurler surrendered 11 runs on nine hits over four innings, striking out five and walking one.
The Spartans scattered 10 hits in the game. Allen, Gendron and Parker all managed two hits each.
The Spartans are now 1-0 on the season and host Cheverus (at home) on Monday, April 25 at 4:00 p.m.
