The Spartans entered their first full week of contests in the 21-22 season
Baseball
On Friday, April 22nd the Spartans held their first game of the season against Gorham at Goodall Park, defeating the Rams 9-4. In the win, Junior TJ Curley takes the win with 5 IP, 3 hits 3 runs, 2 earned runs, 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Senior Dan Williams went 3-4, earning a double and 2RBIs. Sophomore Ben Gill went 1-3 with a double and 3RBIs, and senior Justin Gould went 1-3 with a double and 2 RBIs.
Next week, the Spartans travel to Bonny Eagle on Tuesday, April 26 and host Thornton Academy at Goodall on Thursday, April 28 at 4:30 p.m.
Boys Lacrosse
Boys Lacrosse fell to Noble, 11-7 in a tough cross-town battle at Alumni Stadium on Wednesday, April 20.
They bounced back on Saturday, April 23 with a great home win against Deering, 15-1. In the win, seniors Jackson Lyles and Parker Pease notched four and five goals, respectively. Sophomore AJ Anderson led in assists with four.
Coach Nate McLellan called the game a “Great win for the team and a great fundamental performance.”
Next week, they travel to Bonny Eagle on Wednesday, April 27 and host Traip Academy at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 30.
Girls Lacrosse
Girls Lacrosse defeated Traip Academy 9-7 on Tuesday, April 19 at Alumni Stadium. Spartans led the game the entire time and held on despite a last-minute push by Traip. The Spartans had six different goal scorers in the win: Emerson Tolpin with three, Kaylynne Hessler with two, and Mckenna Nanartowich, Lily Kallis, Kya Duprey and Caiti Hanselman each with one.

Girls Lacrosse earned their third win of the season at home against South Portland on Thursday, April 21. In the 7-5 victory, Tolpin (pictured left) scored four goals in the win, Hessler scored two goals, had three draw controls and four ground balls, and Nanartowich put one in the back of the net to seal the game with 20 seconds to go. Goalie Lila Bernier earned eight saves in the win.
The previous week, the team defeated Westbrook in a shut-out home-opener 14-0. Find the game recap here.
The 3-0 Spartans hit the road next week to face Gorham on Tuesday, April 26 and Cheverus on Friday, April 29.
Softball
The Sanford Varsity Softball Team defeated the Biddeford Tigers 12-2 on Friday, April 22 thanks to a powerful eight runs in the second inning. The offensive onslaught by the Spartans was led by Madison Allen, Ava Gendron, Madison Sheppard, Julissa McBarron, Tori Parker and Libby Alexander, who all notched in runs that inning. Sheppard was credited with the victory for the Spartans. Read more on the game here.
Next week, the team plays Cheverus on Monday, April 25 on the road and Falmouth at home on Wednesday, April 27 at 4 p.m.
Girls Tennis

The Girls Tennis Team had their first match of the season on Thursday, April 21 at Gorham High School and faced a tough 5-0 loss. Noteworthy performances came from many Spartans, including Olivia Guinard, Sophia Corliss, Sydney Roux, Cayce Chevalier and Caroline Daskoski.
“Everyone played very well,” said head coach Lindsay Strout. “Between sets, we talked about strategies and ways to win, everyone gained skills and confidence even though we lost.”
Next week, the Spartans host Portland on Monday, April 26 at 4 p.m. and Marshwood on Thursday, April 28 at 4 p.m.
