On Friday, May 20, the Sanford High School Concert Band performed the National Anthem at Hadlock Field in Portland, home of the Portland Sea Dogs. They also participated in a parade around the field after the game.
After performing the National Anthem the band was able to sit and watch the remainder of the game, many others joined in on the fun like friends and family of the participants. Sanford’s concert band also received a shout-out during the game.
“The Sea Dogs game on May 20th was amazing!” said senior Mia Noon. “It was really awesome to see our school, more specifically our band, represented in a new setting. This year has involved a lot of the band exploring new opportunities, and it’s extremely exciting to see the band back in action, in even MORE action, than it’s had during my time at Sanford High the previous three years. I can’t wait to see the band follow through similar opportunities, and see the reaction from the Spartan community after I graduate.”
Hailey Francoeur, Band Director at Sanford High School, adds, “It was a really cool experience to stand on Hadlock Field and have the honor of playing the anthem. The students did an exceptional job and sounded amazing. Overall I am really proud of them, and hope to make this a yearly thing for us!”
The band will be performing at the Sanford-Springvale Memorial day parade this Monday, May 30. The band’s final performance will be at graduation this year on June 8.
