Spartans to host five home games against Scarborough in basketball extravaganza
The Sanford boys and girls basketball seasons officially tip-off on Friday, Dec. 9 at home against Scarborough. Five games will be played in the practice and competition gyms to provide a number of opportunities to watch our Spartans.
The five games running on Friday include:
- Boys First Team – 4 p.m., Practice Gym.
- Girls JV – 4 p.m., Competition Gym
- Boys JV – 5:30 p.m., Practice Gym
- Girls Varsity – 5:30 p.m., Competition Gym
- Boys Varsity – 7 p.m., Competition Gym
Top varsity returners for girls varsity include senior Riley Hebler and a strong junior class of Julissa McBarron, Hailey Tarbox and Shelby McLeod.
Head Coach Rossie Kearson also praises a skilled freshmen group that includes Ava Hudson, Annalise Stimmell, and Sophie Olivo.
On the boy’s side, top varsity returners include juniors Makai Bougie and Tanner McCann, along with senior Luke “LJ” McFarland.
According to Head Coach Jacob Mills, the Spartans are excited to have seniors Alex Sevigny and Liam Gendron back from injury and are ready to see what seniors Gavin Haskell and Shawn Puffer can do at the varsity level.
Additional returning players looking to contribute include juniors AJ Anderson, Brandon Kennedy, and Tyler Sevigny, while sophomore Brady Adams, the team’s youngest player, will look to make his mark on the team.
Coach Kearson encourages all students to attend as many boys and girls games as possible this year to show support and Spartan Pride.
In partnership with the SMAA and MPA, all spectators should remember that there will be zero tolerance for any vulgarity or degrading comments toward the officials or athletes on the court.
