Sanford High School’s Math Team competed in State Math Meet on April 4 at the Augusta Civic Center.
As a team, Sanford ranked 12th out of 25 teams for Class A. They were in the top third of all the teams that went.
Although no one on Sanford placed, every student scored points at the competition, meaning that everyone got at least one question correct.
The members of Math team who attended were Samantha Phillips, Nathan Ghedoni, Chase Wilson, Zachary Parison, Lamar Amoakohene, Rishi Patel, Corinna Vitale, Greggory Waterman, Aidan Gendron and Elsie Gendron. Quang Lam came as an alternate.
Other members of the Math team who did not attend the meet are Michael Cousineau, Fineus Daly, Jennifer Danis, Samone Gallagher, Lucas Gendreau, Lillian Tuttle and Timothy McGee.
In total, there were 88 teams between Classes A through D competing in the event
All schools in the state of Maine sent a team of 10 students. There were team rounds, individual rounds and relay rounds. Each round was timed.
This meet was the end of the competition season for the math teams. Previously, they had five regional meets where the other members of the math team were able to compete. The state meet is the longest of all the meets. The state meet lasted from 10 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m.
Ms. Colbeth, co-advisor of the math team, commented, “…Even if you aren’t the best at math, but just want to be better, it’s a great activity to do.”
Mr. Soule is the other Math Team co-advisor.
