Tickets on sale for highly anticipated musical
BY CHLOE LANE, STAFF WRITER & NATALIE GILES, THEATER CLUB VP OF MARKETING
The Sanford High School Theater Club will be performing the Broadway musical hit, “Mamma Mia!” from April 1 – April 3 at the Sanford Performing Arts Center.
Performance times will be at 6:30 p.m. on April 1 and 2, and 2 p.m. on April 3. Tickets to the show cost $12 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $7 for SHS students.
A press release written by Natalie Giles, VP of Marketing for the Theater Club, details how “Mamma Mia!” tells the story of 20-year-old Sophie and her mother, Donna:
Sophie is a spirited young woman who dreams of having her father walk her down the aisle on her wedding day. As her wedding is being planned, she decides to invite the three men she suspects could be her biological father, without her mother realizing, in hopes of figuring out which one it is before it’s too late. What follows is a tale of drama, hilarity, romance, music, and a white wedding you’ll never forget.
The show also features many loved tunes from ABBA, including “Dancing Queen,” “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme,” “Mamma Mia,” “Thank You For The Music,” “Waterloo,” and many more.
Under the direction of Brett Williams, Kristie Baker and Jane Kirton, the cast and crew have been able to pull this show together amidst the troubles and restrictions the COVID-19 virus has brought to the rehearsal process.
“Being a part of this production has been a really fun experience,” says Hope Abbott-Eaton, who will be playing the lead role of Sophie. “It’s really great to be a part of something I love doing, with other people who love it as well.”
“[I love] the creativity, hooking the crowd in, stepping outside my comfort zone, being more social [and] confident, and the process of acting for theater…” says Zach Michienzi, who is playing Sky.
Students working on the production have also expressed their excitement regarding the restrictions being lifted and that they can now present the show without wearing masks or social distancing.
Lucille Utgard, General Stage Manager, works behind the scenes because she loves “watching the magic happen over time and seeing it come together from every angle.”
